Hey friends 👋,

I'm leaving Colorado and heading to Seattle this week. I'll be giving a talk at Amazon HQ on Generative AI & Startups.

The talk will cover how different companies are utilizing AI, what is coming next in GenAI, and how companies can take advantage of this technology.

The event will be recorded, so I'll be sure to share it with you soon!

💬 Claude 2 vs. ChatGPT

One of ChatGPT’s big rivals, Anthropic, released their newest AI model, Claude 2, this week. Some key features:

  • It can summarize up to 75,000 words, dwarfing ChatGPT’s 3,000-word limit.
  • Its knowledge cutoff is early 2023, compared to GPT-4’s September 2021.
  • It has abilities similar to the ChatGPT Code Interpreter.
  • For developers, it’s 5x cheaper than GPT-4.

You can try out their new model here: claude.ai

So, what are the pros and cons of utilizing a model like ChatGPT vs. Claude?

The biggest benefit of Claude over GPT is the context window. The fact that you can upload documents and prompts 25x larger than GPT is a real advantage. While Claude 2 might not match the ‘intelligence’ of GPT-4 in some respects, its larger context window makes it an interesting alternative.

This is all to say: don’t rely solely on foundational models. The power of AI will continue to be exposed through products built on top of LLMs. It’s exciting to see products that utilize multiple models in a single product, combining the strengths of each to deliver an amazing user experience by always using the right model for the job.

STARTUP STRATEGY

🤝 Pick the Right Co-Founder

One of the most crucial aspects of building a successful business is finding the right co-founder. History has shown us that the most successful companies have emerged as a result of strong co-founder collaborations.

I met my co-founder and CTO, Ian, during our freshman year of college. We were friends for years before starting CassidyAI together. Not only is he the best engineer I know, but he’s also somebody I can work with day after day, persevering together through challenges to create something great

So, if you’re about to start your own business, here are some key qualities to look for in a potential co-founder:

  1. Complementary Skills and Strengths: Your co-founder should have a skillset that fills in the gaps left by yours, creating a well-rounded team that can do anything together. For example, if you’re non-technical, you probably need someone with a strong technical background.
  2. Shared Values and Priorities: While differing opinions can be valuable, it’s essential to choose a co-founder who shares your fundamental values and goals for the company.
  3. Energy, Drive, and Work Habits: Building a business requires dedication and hard work. Look for someone who shares your passion and determination to persevere.
  4. Solid Relationship and Connection: You want to start a company with someone you know and trust. The biggest limiting factor is finding such a person, so consider partnering with those you have worked with previously.

At the end of the day, the right co-founder can make or break your startup. Keep these qualities in mind when searching for your a co-founder.

💡 This Week's Recommendations

🔗 Bard’s latest update: more features, languages and countries: Bard continues to ship new features, now available in over 40 languages including Arabic, Chinese, and German, and in more countries including Brazil and across Europe. New features include the ability to listen to responses, adjust the tone and style of responses, pin and rename conversations, export code to Replit, share responses with friends, and use images in prompts.

🔗 Meta to release commercial AI model in effort to catch rival: Meta is planning to release their open-source AI model for commercial use. Unlike Google and OpenAI, their model will be open source, giving businesses of all sizes the opportunity to adapt and improve the AI. This will enable businesses and developers to build on top of Meta's LLM. "The goal is to diminish the current dominance of OpenAI," said one person with knowledge of high-level strategy at Meta.

🔗 AI Job Board: Looking for a job in AI? I stumbled upon this AI job board this week. It shows all the companies hiring in the AI space.

🔗 Elon Musk Launches Artificial Intelligence Company xAI: What to Know: Elon has started yet another company…it's an AI company called xAI. The team consists of 12 experienced individuals from OpenAI, DeepMind, Google Research, Microsoft Research, and Tesla. Although the company's objective is to "understand the true nature of the universe," little is known about its actual operations. My guess is that it will take a more open-source approach to AI, in contrast to OpenAI's approach.
